Millions of teeth are treated and saved every year with root canal treatment. The caring and professional team at Orland Dental Care specializes in root canal treatments to relieve your tooth discomfort, pain and save your smile.
A root canal treatment is needed when an infection is present and is the last alternative before the tooth is extracted.
During a root canal treatment, we use specialized tools to access the inner area of the tooth. We will then remove any infected pulp, damaged nerve tissue and visible decay that is present. The tooth is then thoroughly cleaned and sealed with a dental filling substance to maintain its structure. Finally, a dental crown will be applied over the tooth in order to prevent fractures from occurring.
Root Canal Retreatment - In most cases teeth that have root canal treatments will last for years to come. In rare cases, the tooth that received the root canal does not heal. Orland Dental Care’s dental team offers root canal retreatment to fix this problem.
There are several reasons why your tooth that received a root canal may not heal:
- Canals are too narrow or curved to be treated during the procedure.
- Complicated canals went undetected in the first root canal.
- Too long of a delay in putting the crown on following treatment.
- Salivary contamination to the inside of the tooth was not prevented by restoration.
If retreatment is required, the dentist will begin with the removal of crown, post and core material. Additionally, the canal filling will be removed. Using magnification and illumination, the dentist will search for additional canals that need to be treated before filling and sealing the canals. Again a temporary crown will be added, and on a second appointment, the filling will be added.
